Temperatuurikõrgus

Temperatuurikõrgus, also known as temperature altitude, is a concept used in meteorology and aviation to describe the altitude at which a given temperature would occur in a standard atmosphere. It is not the same as actual altitude or pressure altitude. Essentially, temperature altitude is a hypothetical altitude where the air temperature is the same as the actual temperature at a given point.

The standard atmosphere is a theoretical model that defines average conditions of temperature, pressure, and density at different altitudes. In this standard model, temperature decreases with increasing altitude. When the actual air temperature is warmer than the standard atmosphere at a given pressure altitude, the temperature altitude will be higher than the pressure altitude. Conversely, if the actual air temperature is colder than the standard atmosphere, the temperature altitude will be lower.

This concept is particularly important in aviation for performance calculations. Engines and aircraft perform differently under varying temperature conditions. A warmer air temperature, even at the same pressure altitude, can reduce engine power and lift, effectively making the aircraft "feel" like it's at a higher altitude. This is often referred to as "density altitude," which is closely related to temperature altitude and takes into account both pressure and temperature. Understanding temperature altitude helps pilots and meteorologists assess atmospheric conditions and their impact on operations.
