Temperaturstyrda describes systems, devices, or processes that are designed to maintain a target temperature or a specific temperature range. They rely on feedback control to adjust heating or cooling in response to measured deviations from a setpoint.

Operation typically involves a temperature sensor that monitors the actual temperature and sends a signal to a controller. The controller compares this with the setpoint and activates actuators such as heaters, coolers, valves, or dampers to correct the deviation. Common control strategies include on-off control with a deadband, proportional-integral-derivative (PID) control, and feedforward approaches that account for disturbances. Good performance is characterized by stability, minimal overshoot, fast response, and tight tolerance.

Components commonly involved are temperature sensors (thermistors, RTDs, thermocouples), controllers (analog, digital, or programmable logic controllers), actuators (valves, compressors, heaters, coolers, fans), and insulation or thermal mass to reduce heat exchange. System design also considers sensor placement, calibration, response time, and energy efficiency.

Applications range across refrigeration, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC), food processing and storage, chemical and pharmaceutical manufacturing, electronics testing, medical devices, incubators, ovens, and climate-controlled transport. Temperature control is essential for product quality, process safety, and regulatory compliance in many industries.

Challenges include maintaining accuracy under varying loads, sensor drift and noise, time delays, hysteresis, energy consumption, safety interlocks, and the need for regular maintenance and calibration.
