Tegurile

Tegurile is a term used in Romanian-language scholarly literature to denote two related but distinct concepts: roof tiles in architectural and archaeological contexts, and a thoracic sclerite in certain insects. The form derives from Latin tegula, meaning a tile or covering, with the Latin plural tegulae serving as a historical reference point.

In architectural and archaeological contexts, tegurile (Latin tegulae) are roof tiles used on the surfaces of buildings. They are typically made from fired clay and appear in various shapes, including flat, curved, and interlocking types. Tegurile provide weatherproofing and contribute to the structural and aesthetic characteristics of a roof. The study of tegurile covers typology, manufacturing techniques, regional variations, and trade networks that affected tile production and distribution in antiquity and the Middle Ages.

In entomology, tegula (plural tegulae) refers to a small sclerite on the thorax at the base of the wings in many insects, especially within bees, wasps, and related groups.
