Teerhout

Teerhout is a small town and municipality in the fictional country of Veridia, located in the northern part of the Veridian region of Northshire. It is situated along the Teerhout River, near mixed farmland and woodland. The municipality covers about 32 square kilometers and had an estimated population of 3,200 as of 2022.

The town lies in a gentle valley and is connected by regional roads and a rail spur that links to the Veridian capital. Local government consists of a mayor and a 12-member council, elected for five-year terms. It belongs to Northshire Province and shares services with neighboring municipalities.

Teerhout traces back to the 12th century, with surviving records noting a watermill on the river. The settlement expanded in the 18th and 19th centuries, aided by textile workshops, and later diversified into agriculture and light manufacturing. The town has remained compact, preserving a historic center.

The economy is anchored by agriculture (dairy and crops), small-scale manufacturing, and a growing service sector. Local infrastructure includes a primary school, veterinary services, a community hospital in the region, and a town square with a weekly market. Notable sites include the 15th-century Saint-Lire Church and Teerhout Mill, and the town hosts an annual harvest festival and crafts fair.
