Tavush
Tavush (Armenian: Տավուշ) is a province (marz) in the northeastern part of the Republic of Armenia. Bordered by Georgia to the north, Azerbaijan’s Tavush–Shirak region to the east, and the Armenian provinces of Lori, Kotayk and Gegharkunik to the west and south, it covers an area of roughly 2,388 square kilometres. The provincial capital is Ijevan, a town situated on the banks of the Aghstev River.
Geographically, Tavush is characterised by a mountainous terrain that forms part of the Lesser Caucasus range.
Historically, the area has been inhabited since antiquity, with archaeological sites dating to the Bronze Age.
According to the 2011 census, the population of the province was about 128,000, predominantly ethnic Armenians,
