Ijevan

Ijevan (Armenian: Իջևան) is a city in northeastern Armenia. It is the administrative center of Tavush Province and the largest city in the province. The city sits in the valley of the Aghstev River at the foothills of the Tavush Mountains, in a region characterized by green hills and forests.

Ijevan has a temperate continental climate with four distinct seasons, and its surroundings are known for scenic landscapes and abundant greenery.

The area around Ijevan has been inhabited since antiquity, and the town developed as a regional center in the modern era. Today it functions as an important administrative, cultural, and economic hub within Tavush.

As of recent estimates, the city has a population of around 20,000 residents. The local economy includes light industry, services, and agriculture, with forestry and related processing contributing to the region’s economy. Ijevan also serves as a focal point for education and culture in the province, hosting libraries, schools, and regional cultural institutions.

Among its notable landmarks is the Ijevan Dendro Park, an arboretum and botanical garden that lies within the city and draws visitors from across the region. The city also provides access to Tavush’s natural attractions and serves as a base for exploring the surrounding forests, canyons, and historic sites.
