Tauditilas

Tauditilas is a genus of flowering plants in the family Apiaceae, commonly known as the carrot family. The genus currently contains only one recognized species, Tauditilas maritimus. This species is native to the Mediterranean region, particularly found in coastal areas of Italy, France, and Spain.

Tauditilas maritimus is a perennial herb that typically grows to a height of 30 to 60 centimeters. It features finely divided, feathery leaves and produces small, white flowers arranged in characteristic umbels, a common feature of the Apiaceae family. The plant thrives in sandy or rocky soils and is well-adapted to saline environments, hence its specific epithet "maritimus," meaning "of the sea."

The genus Tauditilas was first described by botanist Antonio Bertoloni in 1840. While historically some other species were included under this genus, modern taxonomic studies have largely consolidated them into other genera or recognized them as synonyms. The plant's ecological role primarily involves contributing to coastal dune vegetation. Its conservation status is not extensively documented, but it is generally considered to be locally common within its native range. Further research into its specific ecological interactions and potential medicinal or economic uses is limited.
