Tasopo

Tasopo is a fictional city-state created for use in fantasy literature and tabletop role-playing game settings. It is depicted as a coastal hub with a long maritime heritage, situated in the shared world of the Meridia region.

Geographically, Tasopo sits on a protected bay along the southern coast, with the main urban core perched on a limestone bluff and a network of islets connected by causeways and a busy harbor.

Tasopo's history stretches from early seafaring clans in the 12th century to a flourishing trading center that faced a major upheaval after a 1672 earthquake. It is governed by the Tasopan Confederacy, a council-led republic.

The economy blends traditional sectors—fishing, shipbuilding, and salt production—with modern activity in tourism, artisanal crafts, and light manufacturing. The port remains central to commerce, while ferries and a ring road link the city with its hinterland.

The Tasopan language belongs to the Meridic language family and is spoken by a plurality of residents, with neighboring tongues present in immigrant communities. Cultural life centers on the Lantern Market festival, seafaring poetry, and guilds of navigators and artisans.

Current estimates place the population at around 120,000. Tasopo has a literacy-oriented education system with primary to vocational tracks and several higher-education institutes. Notable landmarks include the Lighthouse of Sable Point and the Coral Gate.
