This equilibrium state signifies that the rate at which molecules escape from the condensed phase into the vapor phase is equal to the rate at which vapor molecules return to the condensed phase.

At equilibrium, the net rate of phase change is zero, and the properties of the system, including the vapor pressure, remain constant over time. The equilibrium vapor pressure is a characteristic property of a substance and is highly dependent on temperature. As temperature increases, the kinetic energy of molecules in the condensed phase increases, leading to a higher rate of evaporation and consequently a higher equilibrium vapor pressure.
