Talviens

Talviens is a town and administrative center in the lowland region of Valoria. Located along the Tal River, it lies about 60 kilometers northeast of Valoria City. As of 2023, the municipality has an estimated population of 12,400. The town serves as a local hub for surrounding villages and comprises a historic core surrounded by agricultural estates.

The area has a temperate climate with four distinct seasons. The landscape features river valleys, rolling farmland, and small patches of woodland, with a modest amount of arable land supporting cereals and dairy production.

Talviens dates to the 12th century, when it emerged as a river trading post. It grew through crafts, milling, and trade, receiving a municipal charter in the 15th century. The arrival of the railway in the 1870s spurred growth, and postwar modernization shaped its urban layout and services.

The local economy combines agriculture with small-scale manufacturing and services. Principal crops include wheat and barley, while wood products and metalwork provide light industry. The town hosts a weekly market and benefits from a nearby railway station and road links to larger towns.

Culturally, Talviens maintains a small museum and community library. The town has a primary school and a secondary school, and it hosts an annual harvest festival featuring traditional music and crafts. The historic core includes the Saint-Laurent Church, a Market Hall, and a stone bridge over the Tal River.

Governance is provided by a town council led by a mayor. Talviens forms part of the Valorian prefecture and collaborates with neighboring municipalities on regional planning and services.
