Their homeland features snow-clad plateaus, rocky outcrops, and shielded fjord-like inlets. Talvian communities are organized into kin-based clans that form loose inter-clan alliances for defense and trade. Settlements emphasize practical architecture—stone houses with timber interiors—and migrate seasonally between higher pastures in summer and valleys in winter.

Talvian is presented as a language isolate with agglutinative elements and a rich system of case endings. It uses a syllabary-influenced writing system introduced by early traders, and several dialects reflect local geography and clan history.
