Tahnah

Tahnah is a coastal city in the fictional realm of Eldara, located on a natural harbor on the western coast of the Varrin Sea. It is the capital of Tariq Province and a major commercial center known for its maritime trade and crafts.

The name Tahnah is said to derive from an ancient term meaning harbor or shelter; locals sometimes refer to the city simply as the Harbor.

Tahnah sits on a shoreline of mixed sandy beaches and limestone cliffs, with a warm temperate climate and moderate rainfall. The harbor is anchored by a breakwater and several docks used by fishing fleets and cargo ships.

Founded late in the first millennium CE by seafaring clans, Tahnah prospered as a trading post linking inland markets with maritime routes. It joined the Eldaran Confederation in the 14th century and grew in the modern era through a free-trade zone and port modernization.

The economy centers on shipping, fishing, shipbuilding, and crafts. The port handles regional cargo and passenger traffic; a free-trade zone supports light manufacturing. A ring road around the city connects to a regional rail link.

The population is diverse, with Tahnahan, Eldaran, and Kisari communities. Languages include Tahnahan and Eldaran; cuisine blends seafood, citrus, and spice. Cultural life centers on the Harbor Festival and Lantern Market.

Notable landmarks include the Old Harbor Quarter, the Lighthouse of the Gate, and the Market of the Seven Seas, which preserve maritime heritage. Education is provided by several public schools and a university campus focused on marine studies.

The city government is led by an elected mayor and city council within the framework of Tariq Province, with oversight from Eldaran authorities.
