Tagansky

Tagansky is an administrative district (raion) of South-Eastern Administrative Okrug in Moscow, Russia, named after the historical village of Taganka. It is located on the right bank of the Moskva River and is one of the central districts of the city. The district is bordered by the districts of Basmanny, Khamovniki, Danilovsky, and Yuzhnoportovy.

Tagansky is known for its rich history and cultural significance. The area was first mentioned in historical records in the 16th century. The district's name is derived from the Taganka sloboda, a historical settlement of streltsy (elite Russian infantry units) established by Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich. The Taganka Theatre, a renowned drama theater, is one of the cultural landmarks of the district.

The district is well-connected with the rest of Moscow through its public transportation network. Taganskaya Square, a major transportation hub, is home to two metro stations: Taganskaya on the Circle Line and Markistskaya on the Tagansko-Krasnopresnenskaya Line.
