TPVs
TPVs, or Thermoplastic Vulcanizates, are a class of TPEs, or Thermoplastic Elastomers. They are alloys of a thermoplastic polymer, typically polypropylene, and a vulcanized rubber, such as EPDM. The vulcanization process, where rubber is cross-linked to improve its elastic properties, is carried out during the melt blending stage with the thermoplastic. This unique combination results in materials that exhibit the processing ease of thermoplastics while retaining the performance characteristics of thermoset rubbers, like good elasticity, temperature resistance, and chemical resistance.
TPVs are known for their excellent resilience, good compression set, and resistance to oils, fuels, and weathering.
Common applications for TPVs include automotive components such as seals, gaskets, hoses, and bellows, where their
