TEUyksiköitä, also known as TEU units, are a system of measurement used to quantify the capacity of container ships and cargo containers. The term "TEU" stands for "Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit," and it represents the capacity of a standard 20-foot long container. This unit is widely used in the shipping industry to standardize the measurement of containerized cargo.

The TEU unit is based on the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) container dimensions, which specify that a standard container is 20 feet (6.1 meters) long, 8 feet (2.44 meters) wide, and 8.5 feet (2.59 meters) high. This size is considered the most common and efficient for international shipping.

TEUyksiköitä can be used to measure both the capacity of container ships and the volume of cargo. For ships, the TEU capacity refers to the number of 20-foot containers the ship can carry. For cargo, it indicates the number of 20-foot containers needed to hold the cargo. The TEU system allows for easy comparison and calculation of shipping capacities and cargo volumes, facilitating efficient logistics and supply chain management.

In addition to the standard 20-foot container, there are also 40-foot containers, which are measured in terms of Forty-foot Equivalent Units (FEU). A 40-foot container is equivalent to two TEUs. The TEU system is an essential tool in the global shipping industry, enabling standardized measurements and facilitating international trade.
