TCRkedjor

TCRkedjor is a term used in Swedish immunology to refer to the chains that compose the T-cell receptor (TCR). The TCR is a membrane-bound heterodimer that, in humans, most commonly consists of an alpha chain and a beta chain (TCRαβ), or less commonly gamma and delta chains (TCRγδ). The two chains together form the antigen-binding site and associate with the CD3 signaling complex to transmit activation signals when the receptor engages peptide–MHC complexes on antigen-presenting cells.

Each chain has variable (V) and constant (C) regions, with the variable region containing complementarity-determining regions (CDRs) that determine antigen specificity, especially CDR3, which is generated by V(D)J recombination. The genes encoding TCR chains are assembled from V, (D), and J gene segments in developing T cells, creating enormous receptor diversity. The alpha chain undergoes VJ recombination, while the beta chain undergo VDJ recombination; in the gamma and delta chains the combinatorial logic is similar but uses different gene segments.

Expression of a functional TCR requires proper pairing of the two chains and association with the CD3 complex for signal transduction upon antigen recognition. TCRs recognize peptide antigens presented by MHC class I or II molecules, enabling specific T cell responses.

In research and clinical contexts, characterization of TCR repertoires and chain usage is important for understanding immune responses, monitoring infections or cancer, and guiding T cell–based therapies and immunotherapies.
