T2O

T2O, also known as tert-butyl nitrite, is an organic nitrite compound with the chemical formula (CH3)3CONO. It is a pale yellow liquid at room temperature with a characteristic pungent odor. T2O is primarily known for its use as a recreational drug, often referred to as "poppers." In this context, it is inhaled and acts as a vasodilator, causing a temporary lowering of blood pressure and muscle relaxation. Its psychoactive effects are short-lived and include feelings of euphoria and heightened sensory perception.

Historically, tert-butyl nitrite has also found applications in organic synthesis as an oxidizing agent or a source of the nitrosonium ion. However, its recreational use has largely overshadowed its industrial or laboratory applications due to safety concerns.
