Toga is a traditional garment worn in ancient Rome, particularly by men. It is a simple, rectangular piece of cloth, usually made of wool or linen, that is draped over the body and secured at the waist with a belt called a cinctus. The toga is a symbol of Roman citizenship and is often depicted in art and literature as a sign of freedom and equality. There are different types of togas, including the toga virilis, worn by adult males, and the toga praetexta, worn by magistrates and senators. The toga was also worn by women, known as the stola, which was shorter and had a different style of cinctus. The toga has had a significant influence on modern fashion and continues to be a popular choice for formal occasions and historical reenactments.
