Tændingsproces

Tændingsproces refers to the process of initiating combustion, most commonly in internal combustion engines. It is a critical stage in the thermodynamic cycle that converts chemical energy stored in fuel into mechanical work. The tændingsproces begins when a suitable ignition source is applied to a combustible mixture of fuel and air. In spark-ignition engines, this ignition source is typically an electric spark generated by a spark plug. The high voltage from the ignition coil creates a spark across the gap of the spark plug, which heats the surrounding fuel-air mixture to its autoignition temperature.

In compression-ignition engines, such as diesel engines, the tændingsproces occurs without a spark. Instead, air is compressed to a very high pressure and temperature within the cylinder. When fuel is injected into this superheated air, it spontaneously ignites due to the extreme temperature. The rate at which the flame propagates through the mixture is a key factor in the efficiency and smoothness of the engine's operation. Factors influencing the tændingsproces include the fuel-air ratio, the temperature and pressure of the mixture, the ignition source's energy, and the geometry of the combustion chamber. Incomplete or improper tændingsproces can lead to engine misfires, reduced power output, increased emissions, and fuel inefficiency.
