Süvendustöö, also known as deep-sea mining or deep-sea dredging, is the process of extracting minerals and other resources from the deep ocean floor. This activity typically occurs at depths greater than 200 meters, where sunlight does not penetrate, and the environment is characterized by extreme pressure, cold temperatures, and complete darkness. The primary resources targeted by süvendustöö include polymetallic nodules, cobalt-rich crusts, and manganese crusts, which are rich in valuable metals such as copper, nickel, cobalt, and manganese.
