Sünnituskanaliga

Sünnituskanaliga refers to the birth canal, the passageway through which a fetus travels during childbirth. This canal is comprised of the cervix, vagina, and vulva. The cervix, the lower, narrow part of the uterus, must dilate significantly to allow the baby to pass through. The vagina is a muscular tube that connects the cervix to the outside of the body. The vulva includes the external female genitalia.

During labor, uterine contractions push the baby downwards. As labor progresses, the cervix effaces and dilates. The baby's head typically enters the birth canal first, facing downwards. The mother's pelvic bones and the elasticity of the vaginal tissues accommodate the passage of the baby. The process can involve several stages, with the expulsion of the baby being the second stage. The size and position of the baby, as well as the mother's anatomy, can influence the ease and duration of passage through the birth canal. After the baby is born, the placenta is also expelled through the birth canal.
