Südameklappides

Südameklappides refers to the heart valves, which are crucial structures within the human heart that ensure unidirectional blood flow. There are four main heart valves: the tricuspid valve, the pulmonary valve, the mitral valve, and the aortic valve. These valves open and close in a coordinated manner with each heartbeat, preventing blood from flowing backward into the chambers it has already left.

The tricuspid valve is located between the right atrium and the right ventricle. The pulmonary valve separates the right ventricle from the pulmonary artery, which carries blood to the lungs. The mitral valve (also known as the bicuspid valve) is situated between the left atrium and the left ventricle. Finally, the aortic valve is found between the left ventricle and the aorta, the body's main artery.

Dysfunction of these valves can lead to various cardiovascular conditions. Valve stenosis occurs when a valve narrows, restricting blood flow. Valve regurgitation, also known as insufficiency or incompetence, happens when a valve does not close properly, allowing blood to leak backward. These conditions can strain the heart and impair its ability to pump blood effectively, potentially leading to symptoms such as shortness of breath, chest pain, fatigue, and heart murmurs. Diagnosis typically involves physical examination, echocardiography, and sometimes other imaging techniques. Treatment options range from medication to surgical repair or replacement of the affected valve.
