Sõnaühendus

Sõnaühendus is an Estonian term that translates to "word combination" or "phrase" in English. It refers to a group of two or more words that function together as a single unit within a sentence, conveying a particular meaning. These combinations are fundamental building blocks of language, allowing for more complex and nuanced expression than single words can achieve.

Sõnaühendus can be classified in various ways. A common distinction is between coordinated and subordinated sõnaühendused. Coordinated combinations, like "punane ja sinine" (red and blue), link words of equal grammatical rank. Subordinated combinations, such as "ilus maja" (beautiful house), involve a main word and a modifying word that depends on it. The modifying word can be an adjective, adverb, numeral, or even another noun or pronoun.
