Säästöviljelyjärjestelmä, often translated as conservation tillage or minimum tillage, refers to a group of farming practices that minimize soil disturbance from plowing. The primary goal is to leave crop residue on the soil surface, which helps protect the soil from erosion by wind and water. This system contrasts with conventional tillage, which involves plowing the land deeply before planting.

Several types of säästöviljelyjärjestelmä exist, including no-till, strip-till, and mulch-till. No-till farming involves planting directly into undisturbed soil or residue from the previous crop, eliminating plowing altogether. Strip-till disturbs only a narrow band of soil where seeds are planted, leaving the areas between rows intact. Mulch-till involves some form of tillage but leaves a significant amount of residue on the surface.
