Säteilymäärityksessä, also known as radiation assessment or dose assessment, is the process of determining the amount of ionizing radiation absorbed by an object or organism, or the amount of radioactive material present in a given area. This process is crucial for radiation protection, environmental monitoring, and nuclear safety.

The measurement of radiation can be done in several ways. For external exposure, dosemeters are used to measure the absorbed dose in tissue. These can be personal dosemeters worn by individuals or area monitors placed in specific locations. For internal contamination, bioassays are performed, which involve analyzing biological samples such as urine or blood to detect and quantify radioactive substances within the body. Environmental monitoring involves sampling air, water, soil, and vegetation to assess the presence and levels of radioactivity in the environment.

Various instruments are employed in säteilymäärityksessä. Geiger-Müller counters are commonly used to detect the presence of ionizing radiation and measure its intensity.
