Säilyvyysmerkinnät are date markings found on food products in Finland. These markings indicate the recommended best-before date or final consumption date for a product. There are two primary types of säilyvyysmerkinnät: "parasta ennen" (best before) and "viimeinen käyttöpäivä" (use by).

The "parasta ennen" date indicates the date until which the food is expected to retain its optimal quality, such as taste and texture, when stored properly. After this date, the food may still be safe to consume, but its sensory qualities might have diminished. Retailers are permitted to sell products past their "parasta ennen" date, provided they are still fit for consumption.

The "viimeinen käyttöpäivä" date, on the other hand, signifies the final date by which the food can be safely consumed. This marking is typically used for highly perishable foods, such as fresh meat, fish, and pre-prepared salads, which can pose a health risk if consumed after the specified date. It is illegal to sell products past their "viimeinen käyttöpäivä" date.
