Säilitusstruktuure, often translated as "storage structures" or "retaining structures," refers to a broad category of engineering constructions designed to resist and contain the pressure exerted by materials like soil, water, or granular substances. These structures are crucial in various civil engineering applications, preventing the collapse or displacement of the retained material and ensuring the stability of the surrounding environment.

The primary function of säilitusstruktuure is to counteract lateral forces. These forces can arise from the weight and internal friction of the retained material, as well as external factors like hydrostatic pressure from groundwater or seismic activity.
