Sápmis

Sápmi is the cultural region traditionally inhabited by the Sámi people. It spans across the northern parts of Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Russia's Kola Peninsula. The exact boundaries of Sápmi are not precisely defined and are often considered a cultural and geographical concept rather than a strict political entity. The Sámi are an indigenous Finno-Ugric people with their own distinct languages, traditions, and way of life, historically centered around reindeer herding, fishing, and hunting.

The Sámi flag, a multicolored design with a red, blue, green, and yellow palette, represents the various aspects of Sámi life and culture. The Sámi Parliament, known as the Sámediggi or Sámiráđđi, exists in Norway, Sweden, and Finland, serving as advisory bodies and advocating for Sámi rights and interests within their respective national governments. Despite historical assimilation pressures and ongoing challenges, the Sámi have maintained and revitalized their cultural heritage, including their languages and traditional practices, and continue to strive for self-determination and recognition of their rights within Sápmi.
