Színelmélethez, or color theory, is a body of practical guidance on color mixing and the visual effects of specific color combinations. It is a set of principles that designers, artists, and decorators use to create aesthetically pleasing and effective color schemes.

Central to color theory is the color wheel, a circular diagram that organizes colors based on their relationships. The primary colors (red, yellow, and blue) are at the core, from which all other colors can be derived. Secondary colors (green, orange, and purple) are created by mixing two primary colors. Tertiary colors are formed by mixing a primary and a secondary color.

Color theory also categorizes colors by temperature, dividing them into warm colors (reds, oranges, yellows) and cool colors (blues, greens, purples). Warm colors tend to be energetic and advancing, while cool colors are often calming and receding. The concept of color harmonies, such as complementary, analogous, and triadic schemes, guides the selection of colors that work well together. Complementary colors are opposite each other on the color wheel and create high contrast. Analogous colors are adjacent on the wheel and offer a more subtle harmony. Triadic colors are evenly spaced on the wheel and provide a vibrant, balanced palette.

Understanding hue, saturation, and value are also fundamental to color theory. Hue refers to the pure color itself. Saturation is the intensity or purity of a color, while value is its lightness or darkness. These elements allow for nuanced manipulation of color and its emotional impact.
