Szénhidrátfoszfát

Szénhidrátfoszfát is the Hungarian term for carbohydrate phosphate. This refers to a molecule where a phosphate group is attached to a carbohydrate. These compounds play crucial roles in biological systems, particularly in energy metabolism.

In living organisms, the phosphorylation of carbohydrates is a key step in processes like glycolysis, the initial breakdown of glucose for energy. Enzymes called kinases catalyze the addition of a phosphate group from ATP (adenosine triphosphate) to a carbohydrate. This phosphorylation often traps the carbohydrate within the cell, preventing it from diffusing out, and also makes it more reactive for subsequent metabolic transformations.
