Szászország, also known as Saxony or Sachsen, is a historic region located in modern-day Germany. Its name derives from the Germanic tribe of the Saxons. Historically, Szászország encompassed a much larger territory than the current German state of Saxony, extending into parts of Poland and Bohemia. The region played a significant role in the early history of the Holy Roman Empire and was later divided into various principalities and duchies, most notably the Electorate of Saxony.
