Szomatikus

Szomatikus is a Hungarian adjective meaning relating to the body, as opposed to the mind or the germ line. It derives from the Greek soma, meaning body, and is used in scientific and medical contexts to describe body-related structures, processes, and phenomena. The term is comparable to the English “somatic” and appears in biology, medicine, neuroscience, and psychology.

In biology, szomatikus cells refer to all body cells excluding germ cells (gametes). Somatic cells make up most tissues and organs, and somatic mutations affect these non-reproductive cells; such mutations can contribute to diseases like cancer and to mosaic patterns within an individual. The somatic lineage denotes tissues and organs derived from somatic cells during development, in contrast to germline cells that pass genetic information to offspring.

In neuroscience and physiology, the szomatikus nervous system denotes the somatic nervous system, which mediates voluntary control of skeletal muscles and transmits sensory information from the body to the central nervous system. It is distinguished from the autonomic (visceral) nervous system, which regulates involuntary functions.

In medicine and psychology, somatic symptoms are physical manifestations such as pain or fatigue that may arise from disease, injury, or psychological factors.
