Szentszék
Szentszék is the Hungarian term for the Holy See. The Holy See is the episcopal jurisdiction of the Catholic Church in Rome, the ecclesiastical province that governs the Catholic Church worldwide. It is headed by the Pope, who is the Bishop of Rome and the head of the Catholic Church. The Holy See is a sovereign entity under international law, with a unique legal status. It maintains diplomatic relations with many countries and participates in international organizations. The Holy See's primary role is to guide and govern the Catholic Church, providing doctrinal and moral leadership, and administering its various institutions. Its origins date back to the Apostle Peter, traditionally considered the first Bishop of Rome, and his successors. The administrative body of the Holy See is the Roman Curia, which consists of various dicasteries, tribunals, and offices that assist the Pope in his governance. The Holy See also has a significant cultural and historical impact, being responsible for the preservation of vast archives and art collections.
