Syrjintämuotoina

Syrjintämuotoina refers to the various ways in which discrimination can manifest. It is a Finnish term that describes the different forms that unequal treatment based on certain personal characteristics can take. These forms are often categorized based on the protected grounds against which the discrimination occurs.

Common forms of syrjintämuotoina include direct discrimination, where a person is treated less favorably than another in a comparable situation because of their personal characteristic. Indirect discrimination occurs when a provision, criterion, or practice appears neutral but puts persons with a particular personal characteristic at a particular disadvantage compared with other persons, unless that provision, criterion, or practice is objectively justified by a legitimate aim and the means of achieving that aim are appropriate and necessary.

Other forms can include harassment, which is unwanted conduct related to a personal characteristic that violates a person's dignity or creates an intimidating, hostile, degrading, humiliating, or offensive environment. Victimization is also a form, occurring when a person is treated unfavorably because they have supported someone else in opposing discrimination or have made a complaint about discrimination. These forms are often addressed in legal frameworks to ensure equal treatment and protect individuals from unfair prejudice.
