Syntaxgrammar

Syntaxgrammar is a term used in linguistics and computational linguistics to describe an integrated framework for describing language in which syntactic structure and grammatical information are modeled as a single, interdependent system. Rather than treating syntax (word order and phrase structure) and morphology or sentence-level grammar (agreement, case, subcategorization, valency) as separate layers, syntaxgrammar encodes them together so that grammatical relations are reflected simultaneously in form and function.

The approach draws on unification-based and constraint-based grammars. It can be instantiated with established formalisms that couple structural descriptions with feature structures, such as Lexical-Functional Grammar and Head-Driven Phrase Structure Grammar, as well as related frameworks that merge syntax with functional or semantic information.

In practice, a syntaxgrammar analysis propagates morphosyntactic features through the parse, linking subjects, predicates, and objects with appropriate agreement and case marking. This supports consistent representation of argument structure, subcategorization frames, and long-distance dependencies. In computational linguistics, syntaxgrammar-informed parsers aim to produce analyses that are simultaneously syntactic and grammatical, improving parsing accuracy and enabling more precise downstream interpretation.

Critics note that integrating multiple grammatical dimensions can increase complexity and data requirements, and that the term may overlap with existing multi-layer grammars without a universally accepted standard notation. Nevertheless, syntaxgrammar remains a topic in theoretical modeling and language technology, particularly in studies that emphasize the interplay between form and function in natural language.
