Synfältsbedömning refers to the assessment of an individual's visual field, which is the total area of vision that a person can see. This assessment is crucial for diagnosing and monitoring various eye conditions and neurological disorders that can affect vision. The process typically involves presenting a series of lights or targets at different points within the visual field and asking the patient to indicate when they are seen. This can be done using specialized equipment like a visual field perimeter or through simpler bedside tests.

There are different types of visual field tests, including kinetic and static perimetry. Kinetic perimetry involves moving a target of a specific size and brightness from a non-visible area into the visible field until it is detected. Static perimetry, on the other hand, presents targets at fixed locations with varying intensities. The results of a synfältsbedömning are often represented as a map or graph, illustrating areas of normal vision and any blind spots or scotomas.

Conditions commonly diagnosed or monitored with visual field assessment include glaucoma, which often causes peripheral vision loss, optic nerve damage, and neurological conditions such as stroke or tumors affecting the visual pathways in the brain.
