Sympatomimetics

Sympatomimetics are a class of drugs that mimic the effects of the sympathetic nervous system, which is part of the autonomic nervous system. This system is responsible for the body's "fight or flight" response, activating in situations of stress or danger. Sympatomimetics work by stimulating the sympathetic nervous system, leading to increased heart rate, blood pressure, and the release of glucose from the liver. They are commonly used to treat conditions such as low blood pressure, asthma, and certain types of heart failure. The most well-known sympatomimetic is epinephrine, often administered in emergency situations to treat severe allergic reactions or cardiac arrest.
