Sydänmuutoksia, also known as cardiac remodeling, refers to the structural and functional alterations that occur in the heart in response to various physiological and pathological stimuli. These changes can be adaptive, such as those seen in response to increased workload or hypertension, or maladaptive, as in the case of heart failure or myocardial infarction. The process involves a complex interplay of cellular and molecular mechanisms, including changes in gene expression, protein synthesis, and extracellular matrix remodeling.

Adaptive cardiac remodeling is often characterized by an increase in myocardial mass, improved contractility, and enhanced cardiac output. This response is crucial for maintaining cardiac function during periods of increased demand, such as during physical exercise or pregnancy. However, if the stimulus persists or becomes chronic, adaptive remodeling can transition into maladaptive remodeling, leading to heart failure.
