Swedishborn

Swedish-born is a demographic descriptor for people who were born within the territory of Sweden. It is used in census reports, academic research, and media to distinguish individuals born in Sweden from those born abroad. The term is not a legal status; Swedish citizenship is determined by birth parentage, residence, and naturalization under Swedish law, and may differ from place of birth.

Sweden, located in Northern Europe, has a long history of immigration. While the Swedish-born population forms the historical core of the country’s population, the share of residents born abroad has risen since the late 20th century, contributing to increasing cultural and linguistic diversity. Consequently, the Swedish-born group is internally diverse in ethnicity and background, reflecting multi-generational families and migrants.
