Suurendustaset is an Estonian term that translates to "magnification factor" or "magnification ratio" in English. It refers to the factor by which an object's apparent size is increased when viewed through an optical instrument, such as a microscope or a telescope. The magnification factor is typically calculated by dividing the focal length of the objective lens or mirror by the focal length of the eyepiece. For example, if a microscope has an objective lens with a focal length of 10mm and an eyepiece with a focal length of 25mm, the magnification factor would be 25mm / 10mm = 2.5x. However, in practical use, the magnification is often expressed as a product of the objective magnification and the eyepiece magnification. If an objective lens provides 40x magnification and the eyepiece provides 10x magnification, the total magnification is 40x * 10x = 400x.
