Sutureanchored is a term used in surgical contexts, particularly in orthopedic and reconstructive surgery, to describe a technique or a device that utilizes sutures to secure biological tissues or implants to bone. The primary goal of suture anchoring is to provide a strong and stable fixation point, allowing tissues like tendons, ligaments, or even soft tissue grafts to heal in their intended anatomical positions.

The technique typically involves a small anchor device, often made of biocompatible materials like PEEK or titanium, which is inserted into a pre-drilled hole in the bone. This anchor has one or more pre-loaded sutures. Once the anchor is securely seated, the sutures are passed through the tissue that needs to be reattached or stabilized. Finally, the sutures are tied down, often over the bone surface or around the anchor itself, creating tension that pulls the tissue firmly against the bone.

Suture anchoring is commonly employed in procedures such as rotator cuff repair in the shoulder, anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction in the knee, and Achilles tendon repair. It offers advantages over traditional methods that might rely solely on drilling tunnels through bone or using different fixation devices, potentially leading to stronger repairs, reduced operative time, and improved patient outcomes by facilitating early mobilization and rehabilitation.
