Suttungs
Suttungs is a term that appears in Norse mythology. In the Eddic poem Hávamál, Suttungs is described as a giant and the keeper of the Mead of Poetry. This mead was brewed from the blood of Kvasir, a wise being created by the Aesir and Vanir. Odin, the chief god, sought to obtain this mead to gain wisdom and poetic inspiration. To do so, Odin disguised himself and seduced Gunnlod, Suttungs' daughter, who was guarding the mead. After a period of seduction, Gunnlod allowed Odin to drink from the mead three times. Odin drank the mead completely and transformed into an eagle to escape with it, ultimately distributing its knowledge to the gods and mankind. Suttungs' role is central to the myth of how poetry and wisdom became accessible to mortals.
