Supima

Supima is a brand and trademark that identifies premium American cotton, specifically Pima cotton grown in the United States. The name Supima is an acronym for Superior Pima. The Supima brand is governed by the Supima Foundation, a non-profit organization established in 1954 to promote U.S.-grown cotton and to support research into cotton quality and sustainability.

Supima cotton refers to extra-long staple (ELS) Pima cotton produced under the Supima program. The longer fibers give yarns greater strength, improved softness, and better color retention, resulting in fabrics that are said to feel smoother and wear longer than ordinary cotton. To receive the Supima designation, cotton must be grown in the United States and meet standards for fiber length and other quality parameters set by the foundation.

Production under the Supima program involves participating growers, gins, and textile mills; the Supima label certifies that the cotton originated in the United States and adheres to the program's quality criteria. Supima fibers are used in a range of textiles, including apparel, bed linens, and other home textiles, often marketed as premium or luxury products.
