Superjättiläisiksi (Finnish for "supergiants") refers to a category of extremely large and luminous stars that occupy the uppermost region of the Hertzsprung-Russell diagram. These stars are among the most massive and energetic objects in the universe, typically possessing masses between 10 and 100 times that of the Sun, though some may exceed this range. Their immense size and brightness make them visually striking, often dominating their host galaxies with their radiant output.

Superjättiläisiksi stars are found in the late stages of stellar evolution, having exhausted the hydrogen in their cores and expanded dramatically as they transition into red supergiants or other advanced phases. Their high luminosity results from both their vast size—sometimes hundreds of times wider than the Sun—and their intense nuclear fusion processes. Due to their massive nature, these stars have relatively short lifespans, often lasting only a few million years before undergoing catastrophic supernova explosions.
