Sukhoi

Sukhoi is a Russian aircraft design bureau and manufacturer known for its military and civilian aircraft. The organization was founded in 1939 by the designer Pavel Sukhoi as a dedicated design bureau (OKB) and grew into a major contributor to Soviet and Russian aviation. In the 2000s it became part of the United Aircraft Corporation (UAC), a state-backed aerospace holding, and remains a leading supplier of fighter aircraft and related technologies. The company is headquartered in Moscow, with multiple production and test facilities across Russia.

The Sukhoi design bureau is best known for creating a family of advanced fighter aircraft. The Su-27 and its derivatives—such as the Su-30, Su-33, and Su-35—became central to Soviet and Russian air superiority capabilities, noted for agility, linking, and multirole performance. The Su-57, a fifth-generation fighter developed to compete with modern multirole fighters, emerged as a flagship program in the 2010s and entered service in the later 2020s after extensive testing. Sukhoi has also produced attack and strike aircraft such as the Su-24, Su-25, and Su-34, which have seen substantial use in various conflicts.

In civil aviation, Sukhoi is responsible for the Sukhoi Superjet 100 (SSJ100), a regional jet developed for commercial markets. The SSJ100 first flew in 2008 and entered service in the early 2010s, marking Sukhoi’s expansion into passenger aircraft and competing with other regional jets in its class.

Today, Sukhoi operates as a major component of Russia's aerospace industry, contributing technologies in aerodynamics, avionics, propulsion, and aircraft integration for both military and civilian applications.
