Sufiordes

Sufiordes is a coastal archipelago and cultural region comprising six major islands and numerous islets, located off the northern coast of the fictional continent of Northoria. The name derives from the Sufiordic language and is thought to mean shorewatch. The archipelago is known for its maritime heritage and interconnected communities.

Historically settled in the late Bronze to early Iron Age, the Sufiordes developed distinct island economies and formed a loose confederation to coordinate navigation and trade. In modern times governance rests on a rotating council representing the six islands, with a central senate handling external affairs.

The Sufiordic linguistic sphere includes two main dialects and several minority varieties. Cultural life centers on seamanship, boatbuilding, ropework, and sea harvests, with a maritime festival featuring boat processions and the suvar, a traditional stringed instrument.

Economy and infrastructure center on artisanal fishing, shipyards, and timber exports, complemented by growing tourism and renewable energy projects such as tidal power. Ports link the archipelago to regional markets, supported by modest rail and road connections.

The population numbers in the tens of thousands, with local island councils and a central council of delegates from the six islands. The Sufiordes participate in regional cultural initiatives while preserving distinct maritime traditions.
