Subjugated

Subjugated is an adjective describing a state in which someone or something has been brought under control or domination, usually through force or political power. It can refer to people, communities, territories, or ideas that are subjected to the authority of another group or ruler.

The term derives from the Latin subjugatus, the past participle of subjugare, formed from sub- meaning under and jugum meaning yoke. In English, it has long been used in historical and legal contexts to describe conquest, domination, or submission under a superior authority.
