Støttes

Støttes is the present passive form of the verb støtte in Danish and Norwegian Bokmål. It indicates that something is being supported or aided, rather than performing the act of supporting. The construction is used when the performer of the supporting action is not specified or is understood from context.

In Danish, støttes is used in passive constructions; the agent may be introduced by af, as in “Forslaget støttes af flertallet.” In Norwegian Bokmål, the form is also støttes, for example “Forslaget støttes av regjeringen.” In both languages, støttes describes a state of support rather than the act of supporting.

The form is commonly found in political, legal, or organizational contexts, where proposals, plans, or institutions are described as being supported by groups, parties, or authorities. It contrasts with the active støtter, which attributes the action of supporting to a subject.
