Stura

Stura, commonly known as the Stura di Demonte, is a river in northwestern Italy, located in the Piedmont region. It is a tributary of the Tanaro River, contributing to the Tanaro’s flow as it moves from alpine areas toward the plains.

Geography and course

The Stura originates in the Cottian Alps near the town of Demonte, in the province of Cuneo. It flows through the western Piedmont landscape, carving a valley known as the Valle Stura, before descending onto the plains. The river ultimately joins the Tanaro in the Piedmont plain, helping to feed the river system that eventually reaches the Po.
