Cottian

Cottian is an adjective used to describe things related to the Cottian Alps, the historic Cottian people of the western Alpine region, or, in some linguistic classifications, a proposed group of Romance languages associated with that area.

Geography and name origins

The Cottian Alps form the southwestern segment of the Western Alps, spanning parts of the border region between France and Italy. The term derives from the ancient Cottian population that inhabited the area and from the Roman designation Alpes Cottiae, a frontier zone in the early empire.
